Greater Lynchburg Transit Company Launches Next-Generation Mobile Ticketing Solution and Trip Planning with Masabi and the Transit app
GLTC introduces a new fare payment system as part of transit technology upgrade
Lynchburg, VA – Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 – Greater Lynchburg Transit Company (GLTC), the transit agency serving the City of Lynchburg and its surrounding areas, has today announced the successful launch of a suite of innovative mobile ticketing applications powered by Masabi, the company delivering Fare Payments-as-a-Service through its open platform Justride, working together with Transit app. GLTC is modernizing its services offering improved accessibility, and ensuring the continued provision of high-quality public transportation service to the Central Virginia community.
Masabi is delivering a new GLTC branded app, FlexFare, and is powering mobile ticketing in Transit, an app which thousands of GLTC riders already use. All tickets and passes are available for purchase using both apps, giving riders choice and providing them with the convenience of purchasing fares anytime, anywhere, and combining seamless real-time trip planning with mobile ticketing.
Allowing riders to purchase and manage tickets directly from their smartphones eliminates the need for physical tickets or cash, saving them valuable time. Thanks to the integrations between the Transit app, Masabi and technology partner, Equans, riders in Lynchburg are now able to plan their journeys, locate their next bus, and pay their fares – all from their mobile device.
Equans has provided GLTC with its NAVINEO Integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), which features include: a Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL) providing real-time dispatch functionalities for detour or trip cancellation information, an Automatic Voice Annunciation (AVA) supplying data to interior next stop signage and announcements as well as real-time passenger information via the Transit app.
“Our goal is to offer all riders a convenient and efficient service using the best technologies available, and these partnerships deliver on that. The new tracking system, along with the ability for customers to pay their fares through their smartphone or by using Transit will make riding GLTC more convenient and enjoyable. Meanwhile, putting more information at customers’ fingertips will allow them to plan their trips and ride with ease,” said Josh Moore, General Manager for GLTC.
“Our philosophy is that every town and city should have access to the innovative, cutting-edge transit technologies that riders use in larger cities like Washington and New York. At Masabi, we pride ourselves on offering these solutions to agencies of all sizes while also being affordable and quick to deploy,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO at Masabi. “We are delighted to launch both the mobile ticketing app and ticketing through our partnerships with the Transit app and Equans, to help transform the service that GLTC provides and look forward to continually evolving the system with more new innovations over the coming years.”
“We want to make riding public transit as simple and stress-free as possible, and this solution with our partners at Masabi and Equans helps do that,” said David Block-Schachter, Chief Business Officer at Transit. “GLTC passengers already rely on Transit to find their next trip and track their ride in real-time, and adding the ability to buy transit fares gives riders everything they need in one app.”
